SELF EVALUATION OF PROGRESS MADE TOWARDS SELF DISCOVERY

SELF EVALUATION OF PROGRESS MADE TOWARDS SELF DISCOVERY

(Reposting with a request to evaluate and update)

You can evaluate your progress towards self discovery in the following manner :

1. Have a clear concepts of the words "Mana (Mind) , Vachanan (speech) and Karma (Action).

2. Determine

(a) the quantum of differences between "Mana and Vachana" and then "Vachana and Karma" in relation to a single thought which is getting converted/translated into action and

(b) the quantum of bodily relaxation you feel during and immediately after the action is over.

[Note down or remember your mental and emotional state before determination]

3. Find out the reasons for differences try to understand them. Don't try to get rid of them.

4. Go ahead with any method of so called self-realisation that you have chosen.

5. After sometime traveling on the path or practicing the method of your choice again reassess

(a) the quantum of differences between "Mana and Vachana" and then "Vachana and Karma" in relation to a single thought which is getting converted/translated into action and

(b) the quantum of bodily relaxation you feel during and immediately after the action is over.

[ Try to determine the above in similar state of mind and emotion of stage-2]

6. If you find that the quantum of differences between "Mana and Vachana" and then "Vachana and Karma" has gone down compared to previous data (stage-1) and the quantum of relaxation has increased then "understand that you "are/may be" on the right path".

7. The rate of decrease in difference depends upon the path chosen and your mental state (rigidity,belief,faith,openness,preparedness,etc.).

8. Hence you should find out the correct path suitable for you by hit and trial method, but before that you must assess or get assessed your mental and emotional state.

9. The only condition attached is that the progress noted by you by the process mentioned above, must be getting reflected through your behaviour with animate and inanimate things and such behaviour must be reported by others in and around you, not be known by yourself directly.

10. When finally the mana (mind), vachana (words) and karma (action) come into (show) a state of full synchronisation with each other, you(ego/mind) will be no more there to suggest you that now you are a realised person.

You will be be living in that sate without having knowledge of that state.

You will just become a mirror reflecting whatever comes in front of you.

Total acceptance of whatever is will be reflected through you.

Then you are not that what you think about you at present.

You will be established in your natural state.

Note:
The above is not a formula with any guarantee. Just intellectual thoughts.

What you are not is important

Am I wrong in saying

that

as a first step in the process of self-discovery

it is perhaps

"better/logical/advisable" to give attention to "know/realise/have clarity"

about

"what we are not ( neither body nor mind)"

rather than

wasting our vital mental energy (which is the only source for accomplishing anything in life)

in

trying to "know/realise/search/achieve/reach"

the so called perhaps "unknowable/non-achievable/unreachable" """SELF""".

Success is the journey

Whether you reach somewhere or not on the path of the so called self discovery is immaterial.

But perhaps

the greatest benefit/gain you can derive from walking on the path of the so called self discovery

is that

"""you will be feeling more calm, peaceful, contended, compassionate, loving, internally happy (uncaused), fading away of feeling of separateness, etc."""

for which you are continuously making efforts to have through various other means.

Perhaps other means/ways are not suitable/appropriate to produce the result you desire.

Dhol Gawar--By Dipti

Dipti she wrote:-----------Its been too long since I wrote something..and updated my blog.. but still am glad I've quite a few readers who peep in to have a look..sorry to keep the few readers in "anticipation mode"..Have been held up in the mundane jobs of a being a married woman.Been looking out for job..few issues to be sorted.. ok now getting to the blog-----------------------------------------------------was just introspecting yesterday and remembered the STATEMENT made by my hubby during the tiffs we used to have.. Couple of times he made the statement and it was etched in my mind. So today planned on putting my tots on it in words---------------------------------------------------My hubby- "valmiki, the great saint who composed the epic ramayana has told 'DHOL,( Drum) SHUDRA(Of or belonging to lower caste),PASHU(Animal),NARI(women species) are to be kept as dust below the feet' "-----------------------------------------------------------Many times I tried to explain it to him but to no avail. But I kept on thinking on it and what could the great sage have meant? At times I was also upset with the ways of the world and the way women are treated. The world has always had a slew of male chauvinistic pigs in the upper echelons of the societal and religious setup. I always told him saints had great reverence.

"Dhol, gawar, sudra, pashu, nari sakal tadan ke adhikari"
Literal meaning- drums, illiterate, of lower caste, animals, and female deserve a beating to straighten up and get the acts together. But what the saint truly meant was probably as below-

1* DHOL- The strings of the drum needs to be tightened to get beautiful music out of the instrument. He is referring to the HUMAN MIND which left lose can create havoc.Humans must control their mind.(irrelevant thoughts)

2* GAWAR- The human mind is ever in the process of learning and he refers to the thoughts of the human mind.We need to train and give food to the mind which are positive in nature.

3* PRANI- again its about the thoughts which can run as wild as an animal and needs to be trained in the right direction. It also implies You need to try and teach mind that has deep Tamasic attitude like animals.I also means that even these tamasic minded people also have the
strong rights under God to have proper guidance to get Moksha (Taran)

4* SHUDRA - He doesnt mean of/belonging to lower caste but keeping our thoughts clean clear and pure and not of shudra pravrutthi**(nature)

5.NAARI- last but not least he talks about the attributes which are considered to be that of a female- kama (sensual gratification), Krodha (anger), Moha(delusion), Lobha(greed), Matsara - envy, Mada(Pride/arrogance).A human needs to dissolve or burn away the six poisons for acquisition of true bliss-ANANDA

He meant taming the mind leads to serenity.
All he meant was conquering the mind....?

Tulsidas's sloka

I am posting my understanding of Tulsidas's sloka

Dhol—Drum- The both sides are closed with lather and there is only space inside like outside. If it is beaten sound is produced which perhaps comes due to presence of space/emptiness inside the drum. Is it not a mystery in itself that sound is being produced because of presence of space and perhaps coming from space/emptiness only? To listen this sound you have to do something but you will never know from why it is coming. This is a pointer towards the mystical sound AUM. This happens with the dawning of understanding i.e. enlightenment.

Gawar-Idiot/ignorant who does not know what he/she is doing i.e. who has no idea of who he is, why he is, where he is, from where he has come and where he will go, etc. like all existential questions.—In this sense most of us are idiot. But to understand this fact of being idiot requires a high level of intelligence i.e. least level of resistance to the flow of life i.e. keeping awareness/attention very near to the body. Whether one is idiot or not can be understood only by an enlightened/awakened one .

Shudra- (Sevak/Servant)-When the child comes from the womb he has no awareness about anything whatsoever including God, Spirituality etc. as the child has no inbuilt software (like which is developed with the help of society) to decide to take or not to take the data which are being fed to him. Naturally his prime interest as a body is to survive and for that sense organs are of immense benefit to him. The sense organs help him in making him aware about the world outside and also getting the softwares developed for his utilisation so that his life go on running smoothly. A child becomes a person at the age of about 21 (+ or - 2-3 years). As nobody tell/makes him understand up to this age that these sense organs are meant for his use or he should not be used by sense organs. That in other words sense organs are his servants and he is the master. As he is not aware of this he goes on being used by his sense organs i.e. he goes on serving them till his last breath. The persons who are engaged in the service of their sense organs have been labeled as Sudra(sevak).

Pashu- ( animals including our bodies are totally under control of nature and just require fulfillment of basic needs for living)- They live moment to moment while we(mind) are always out of moment i.e. either past or future. Hence we are unable to understand them(pashu). Only that one among us who lives moment to moment can understand them.

Nari-( women—basically indicating towards the feminine characteristic of nature i.e. nature itself. This has nothing to do with woman and man as body. The question is of characteristic. A man as a body can have feminine character of nature (all Masters, Sages, Saints are examples) and a woman as a body can have the masculine character of Purush. Prakriti(nature)—Its characteristic is all accepting i.e. never changing. They can be labeled as consciousness at rest. While the purush represents ever changing or the coming out of nature ( hence a part of nature) when manifested in various forms. They can be labeled as consciousness in action. For the forms (consciousness in action) it is impossible to understand the Prakriti (nari--consciousness at rest) unless and until it merges with nature i.e. during enlightenment.

Tadan-literal Hindi meaning is beating, but this word is synonyms of the verb “understand” also as I heard many time from my uncle when he used this word. This word is still in use in place of “to understand” at some places in Hindi belt in India. My uncle used to say in “Kya tune tad liya ?”—means “Have you understood?” Hence Tadan means “supposed to be understood”.

This sloka has been said from the point of view of Tulsidas, a saint, hence he must not have meant anything wrong or tried to find fault with the nature as for the saints all are one. There is no question of discrimination. Hence this sloka can be taken as a message from an enlightened one as a code of conduct also as everybody cannot comprehend enlightener’s way of saying. His simple message is that for “understanding the things as it is”.

“WHY DO WE NEED DISCUSSION AT ALL

I had asked -------“WHY DO WE NEED DISCUSSION AT ALL”

Let me try to explain it.

Truth as we know is always relative. Forget the so called spiritual Truth for the time being.

What is the meaning of truth? ----It simply means that “after knowing which the desire to know/understand that thought “fades away/is no more there”. It is like fading away of thought of hunger (feeling hungry no more) after having meal. This applies to all truth including spiritual one, if there is any.

Just for the purpose of understanding I am considering following types of truths. Please bear with me.

1. Conceptual truth—Which has no existence of its own but are very helpful in communication. Example- All alphabets/words/phrases/sentences. The alphabets/words/sentences are interpretations by the brain cells of various impulses being continuously involuntarily (nobody has control over that) fed to the brain cells. Hence whatsoever has been spoken or written on any subject till date are concepts only. All experiences, howsoever holy they may be, without any exception are interpretations of brain only which get expressed later on in the form of thoughts. This also generally does not require discussion much. But updating must go on.

2. Objective truth—The things which can directly or indirectly be perceived by sense organs. They are existential truth and normally do not require discussion.

3. Logical truth — The results which are very much objective truth but how it has arrived/resulted are not known at all. To understand this situation (how) there come a no. of theories/principles/concepts with the help of which we try to logically understand the process/path involved. Whether these conceptual principles are correct or not is immaterial. This mostly applies to science and also in day to day discussion when we try to guess.

4. Agreed truth- This covers our languages/expressions of communication. For example --This is tree, this is sun, and moon, air, etc. like that — This normally does not require discussion.

5. Localised truth— The thoughts agreed between two or more but not accepted by all.

6. Universal truth—The thoughts which have been accepted by the human as a whole. This does require discussion from time to time as updating. This normally does not require discussion.

Now come to the point:

Is it not true that without the activities of brain cells neither anything can be experienced nor expressed as sound or written words or in any way like that ?
Is it not true that none of the desires is ours? They are just subtle expressions (in the form of reactions) of life itself which is expressed in response to outer/inner circumstances surrounding our bodies?

Does it not appear that all what we are discussing are only because of the training imparted to the brain cells?

Is it not true that in all the states of awareness(except deep sleep state i.e. non-REM sate) we are "unconsciously/unknowingly" engaged in trying to "get rid of/free ourselves from" thoughts/desires (spiritual thoughts/desires included) by way of fulfilling those thoughts/desires which are continuously welling up/appearing in our 'mind/consciousness' ?"

Take simple examples to understand this happening.

In the morning after waking up "a thought" related to "having a cup of tea" appears and it gets expressed when we ask somebody “whether tea is ready?” If the answer comes “yes” then that thought (“having a cup of tea”) gets annihilated/fulfilled and we become free from that thought/desire.

If answer comes “no” then another thought appears and gets expressed as “what is the problem?” It (the next thought) again gets annihilated/fulfilled by another answer and we become free from that thought/desire again.

This series of processes (appearing of thoughts/desires--expressing/thinking of thoughts/desires--getting freedom/relieved from thoughts/desires) goes on continuously without any break even for a second/ moment as long as we are awake or in dream, albeit without we being/remaining aware of such happening.

CONCLUSIONS:

Purpose:

1. The whole purpose of discussion (inside means thinking or outside means interacting with others) on any thought is to come to a common understanding (when one does not feel the need of more thinking or interacting as one feels satisfied because the force behind the desire to understand comes to not) so that one gets/finds oneself free from the action of that particular thought, albeit most of the time we are not aware about this desire of getting freedom. But this is temporary relief from discussion because in view of some better inputs later on this may get started again and may come to a temporary end again. This series of start and end continue.

2. But the problem with so called spiritual or religious thoughts is that they being perhaps purely conceptual and subjective/individual cannot survive without discussion and are never ending too. This gives the maximum ego satisfaction and so called never ending so called bliss/ananda/ etc.

3. “””Hence truth does not require discussion and which is not truth cannot survive/exist without discussion.””

What went wrong

What went wrong when I got attracted towards a

"beautiful appealing person of opposite sex"

or

for that matter anything ?

Perhaps I forgot to see the mirror which would have conveyed me whether I am suitable for that person / thing or not.
